Meet the scientists

Jim Reid - Lead Scientist
Jim has worked as a manatee biologist with the US Geological Survey (USGS) since 1990.  His work focuses on the use of photo-identification and radio tracking and satellite telemetery techniques to study manatee movement patterns and identify important habitats for them.

Kendria Ferguson - Lead Assistant
Kendria Ferguson has worked as a Researcher and Education Officer at the Bahamas Marine Mammal Research Organisation since 2011. In preparation for Rita and Georgie’s release, Kendria has conducted research at Great Harbour Cay since December to learn more about the manatees that have been residing there for over a decade and commenced educational outreach to the local community, visiting the school to give seminars, and increasing awareness about manatee presence for boaters.
